Summer Term 1 Week 6

Half-term is here!

We have had an exciting busy last week of term in Kestrels!

We started the week off with an exciting science visitor who showed KS1 and Reception everything we needed to know about bubbles and showed us lots of amazing tricks! The children loved this and even got a chance to take part in some experiments themselves.

In PSHE, the children discussed friendships and what qualities we need to be a good friend. They played icebreaker games to bond with others in the class they may not usually work or play with, as well as play an honesty game.

We had a fun day this week when we focussed our learning on Art! The children created lots of rubbings using wax crayons by finding different textures inside and outside the classroom. They then used these to create patterns by ripping and cutting their rubbing's into shapes and glueing them in a certain way. They all look great!

BBVS worship leaders kindly joined us this week to help write prayers for the school's prayer tree. All children got to write their own prayer on a leaf, and they are now displayed on the tree.

In science we have been learning about plants. This week we have been looking at the structure of plants. The children were able to observe different plants with magnifying glasses and draw their structures as well as label them in their books. We found that not every plant will look the same and grow in the same areas.

We were also very lucky to have some buni trampolines set up in the playground for the children to enjoy! This was kindly organised by FOBBVS. The children had so much fun bouncing, it looked so fun I even had a go myself!

Thank you all for a great term. One more to go!

I have provided the children with spellings to practise over the holidays. Please can you check they know these consistently! They are still required to read too! The children also enjoy testing their maths understanding on Karate Cat Maths on BBC Bitesize. There is also Times Tables Rockstars and Hit the Button to have a go at too.

The children should have a letter explaining Forest School next term and the dates it will take place. These are 14th June, 28th June and 5th July.

I hope you all have a lovely half-term!

Miss Hamilton :)
