Term 4, Week 2! 07.03.25

A fun-filled week of books!
We have loved World Book WEEK at By Brook Valley. Kestrels have loved the teacher book swap and having different members of staff share books with them. Our surprise guest reader was also a great hit and the children loved having a parent come and share a book with them. Miss Davis created a quiz, and we loved guessing the staff members' favourite book or the title of books just by looking at their covers. Of course, we absolutely loved dressing up for World Book Day and Kestrels were very creative with all their different outfits! We loved showing our outfits and books with our reading buddies in year 5 too. As well, today we enjoyed a drama workshop and did lots of activities and games based on the book Rainbow Fish.
Another important workshop we had this week was with the NSPCC about 'Speak Out Stay Safe'. We were reminded about how we all have the right to stay safe and speak out and what this means. We spoke about who our trusted adults are, and we even learnt a fun way to remember the NSPCC phone number!
In English, we have started looking at diary writing. We looked at different types of diaries and created a checklist of features needed in a diary.
We have continued looking at fractions in maths this week and focused on half and quarter. We know what a half and a quarter is and how to write this as a fraction. We have also been able to find half and a quarter from different amounts.
In Music, we have enjoyed learning different British folk songs. Ask your child(ren) if they can remember any of the three we have learnt so far!
