Spring 2 Week 5
What another busy week in Owls class! This week we travelled to Japan. We learnt that it is in the continent of Asia and that they speak Japanese. We looked at pictures of Japan and used adjectives to describe what we could see. The children talked about the pink cherry blossoms and big Mount Fuji!
We have also been preparing for our Easter Service which will take place next week on Wednesday 27th at 9:30. We would love to see as many of you there to support your littlies as they show off their learning about Easter. We recapped the Easter story and talked about how people celebrate Easter. Then we got to try some different hot cross buns! We tried plain, banoffee, and white chocolate and raspberry. The children described the taste, look and smell of the hot cross buns and voted for their favourite - banoffee won! We also began work on our large, collaborative Easter Artwork which you will get to see next week. Even Oliver got to try some hot cross buns! (His favourite was the plain).
In maths this week we learnt about common 3D shapes, including cubes, cylinders, cones and spheres. We used the correct mathematical terminology to count the number of 'faces', 'vertices' and 'edges' and went on a 3D shape hunt around school!
In PE we continued our learning of ball skills but began incorporating some core strength activities, to engage our core muscles. We tried rolling a ball whilst lying on our tummies and learnt the Superman pose!
We had a fun session for our final Welly Walk of the term - playing on the field and testing our strength on the climbing frame!
There is no Star of the week this week due to Year 1's class assembly. Our final celebration assembly where we give out our last Star of the term will be next week.
Some reminders for next week:
- On Tuesday it is class photos, so please ensure your child is in the correct and neat school uniform. There will not be opportunities for siblings or individual photos at this time.
- On Wednesday at 9:30 it is our Easter Service in the school hall. Please practise with your child the line they brought home this week. We look forward to seeing you there.
- We finish at 2pm on Wednesday as it is the end of Spring Term, but please do stick around as it will be the By Brook Valley Easter Spring Fayre on the playground straight after school!
- Please do try to read with your child 5x a week and document this in their reading records.
Many thanks and have a wonderful weekend :)
